FORDIA Calibrated Underpacking Foil
Precision packing for stable pressure, consistent print length and cleaner press changeovers.
1. Product Positioning
CORE PROMISE
Stable packing height produces more even cylinder pressure, more consistent registration and more predictable press performance.
FORDIA Calibrated Underpacking Foil is a precision-converted polyester underlay designed for offset printing plate and blanket cylinders. It replaces unstable stacks of paper packing with a thin, dimensionally stable layer that helps maintain the intended cylinder packing height throughout production.
The product platform can be configured as self-adhesive, anti-slip foil. Its commercial value is not only the PET film itself: FORDIA can combine press-ready converting, machine-size customization, lower-volume sampling, OEM/ODM packaging and direct technical support in one supply program.
The Pressroom Problems It Solves
2. Product Architecture & Recommended Range
The following structure is recommended for a clear international product line. Final thicknesses, tolerances, adhesive values and available roll widths must be confirmed against FORDIA production data before publication.
| Recommended series | Construction | Primary use | Customer value |
|---|---|---|---|
| FORDIA PF-AS | Self-adhesive calibrated anti-slip PET foil | Blanket cylinder/Plate cylinder and hard packing | Repositionable application; strong shear hold; clean removal;Matt anti-slip surface; stable positioning under cyclic load |
| FORDIA Custom | Custom-converted foil | Press-specific sheets, rolls and special widths | OEM/ODM sizes, private label and press-ready converting |
Recommended Commercial Thickness Families
| Product family | Suggested range* | Positioning note |
|---|---|---|
| Plate-cylinder/Blanket-cylinder anti-slip (self-adhesive) | 0.10-0.55 mm | Broad market coverage; aligns with common industry ranges;Focused sizes for stable hard packing beneath blankets |
| Custom programs | By press model and target packing height | Cut sheets, slit rolls and private-label packaging |

3. Eight Customer Advantages
| Advantage | Why the customer cares |
|---|---|
| 1. Stable packing height | Dimensionally stable PET helps maintain the intended underlay thickness better than compressible paper stacks, supporting repeatable cylinder geometry. |
| 2. More even print pressure | A flat, calibrated layer supports more uniform nip pressure, which helps stabilize solids, halftones and color-to-color transfer. |
| 3. Consistent print length | Reduced sinking and movement help limit pressure-related print-length variation during longer runs. |
| 4. Repositionable installation | A controlled adhesive system allows alignment correction during application and helps reduce wrinkles, bubbles and trapped dust. |
| 5. Secure anti-slip performance | High shear hold and an optional matte anti-slip surface help prevent creeping beneath the plate or blanket. |
| 6. Cleaner removal | A balanced low-tack adhesive is designed to peel away cleanly, reducing residue and cylinder-cleaning time. |
| 7. Pressroom durability | PET construction supports resistance to tearing, swelling, common cleaning chemistry and press heat. |
| 8. Supply flexibility | Custom thickness combinations, cut sheets, slit rolls, lower-volume samples, OEM/ODM packaging and consolidated pressroom supply simplify purchasing. |
Where FORDIA Can Feel Stronger Than other European Brands
4. Competitive Benchmark & FORDIA Positioning
This benchmark summarizes public product positioning from leading suppliers. It is not an independent head-to-head laboratory test and should not be presented as proof that one product physically outperforms another.
| Decision factor | Leading-brand benchmark | Recommended FORDIA position |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensional stability | FOLEX, BIRKAN and Policrom emphasize calibrated polyester carriers and stable thickness.[1][3][5] | Match the technical baseline; add press-ready converting and thickness guidance. |
| Installation | FOLEX and Policrom emphasize repositioning and easier application.[1][5] | Offer release-liner quality, application instructions and sample kits by press model. |
| Anti-slip control | FOLEX H48-RB adds a matte anti-slip surface for blanket cylinders.[2] | Create a dedicated blanket-cylinder anti-slip series rather than one universal foil. |
| Removal & residue | FOLEX, BIRKAN and Policrom describe clean removal and reduced residue/cleaning.[1][3][5] | Make clean-removal behavior a release test and record cylinder-surface results. |
| Pressroom resistance | FOLEX and BIRKAN highlight resistance to solvents, cleaners, heat, tearing and swelling.[1][3][4] | Publish only verified solvent, thermal and swelling test methods and limits. |
| Range & formats | FOLEX and BIRKAN offer broad thickness ranges in sheets and/or rolls.[1][2][3][4] | Compete through custom slitting, sheets, mixed orders and distributor-friendly MOQs. |
| Service model | Large brands sell proven standardized portfolios through established channels. | Differentiate with faster technical response, OEM/ODM, packaging flexibility and bundled pressroom supply. |
