FORDIA UV-BLACK

Compressible Offset Printing Rubber Blanket

A UV-focused, Black-surface compressible blanket engineered for controlled ink transfer, stable press performance and dependable recovery in demanding sheet-fed production.

NOMINAL PRODUCT PROFILE 1.96 mm gauge | 82-83 Shore A surface hardness | EPDM-based UV surface | low-stretch reinforced carcass

AT A GLANCE

  • UV-oriented EPDM surface. Designed for UV and LED-UV ink/coating environments, subject to chemical compatibility checks.
  • Controlled compressibility. Supports a wider practical pressure window and helps cushion localized cylinder loading.
  • Stable image transfer. Fine surface finish supports consistent solids, screens and dot reproduction.
  • Customer-ready formats. Available as cut sheets and, where specified, with machine-matched clamping bars.

PRODUCT PROFILE

Designed for UV-focused offset production

FORDIA UV-BLACK combines an EPDM-based printing surface with a reinforced, compressible carcass. The surface is selected for resistance to the chemistry commonly used in UV and LED-UV ink systems, while the compressible layer absorbs short-duration pressure peaks and recovers after the nip. The result is a practical balance of image transfer, dimensional stability and press-side durability.

FORDIA UV-BLACK is intended primarily for sheet-fed applications, including commercial print, folding carton and label work. Metal decorating and selected synthetic substrates may also be suitable when the blanket gauge, packing, press configuration, ink/coating chemistry and wash program have been verified.

Features and production effects

Construction feature Primary effect Customer / process benefit
EPDM-based ruby surface UV-focused chemical resistance Helps limit swelling and surface change when used with compatible UV inks, coatings and washes.
Engineered compressible layer Controlled nip response Cushions localized overload and supports more even contact across ordinary stock variation.
Resilient recovery Improved smash resistance Supports recovery from short-duration pressure events; severe or repeated impacts can still damage any blanket.
Fine, consistent surface finish Clean image transfer Supports solid density, screen uniformity and accurate dot reproduction when pressure is correctly set.
Reinforced low-stretch carcass Stable mounting and register Helps maintain gauge and tension through routine mounting and normal production conditions.
Balanced release characteristics Reliable sheet travel Supports clean transfer and release; actual behavior depends on substrate, tack, speed and press settings.

Recommended application areas

  • Commercial sheet-fed printing. Books, brochures, inserts and general graphic work using compatible UV systems.
  • Packaging and carton work. Coated paper and paperboard where stable solids and screens are required.
  • Label production. Paper and selected filmic materials after an on-press compatibility trial.
  • Metal decorating. Suitable configurations may be used for metal printing and coating after press-specific validation.

SELECTION NOTE FORDIA UV-30 should be matched to the press model, cylinder undercut, required packing, blanket size, clamping system and wash chemistry before production release.

CONSTRUCTION

Multi-layer design with a compressible core

FORDIA UV-BLACK uses a multi-layer structure in which each layer performs a distinct role. The reference micrograph is illustrative: layer thicknesses are not to scale, and exact ply or bonding details may vary with the confirmed production specification.

UV BLACK Compressible Offset Rubber Blanket 1.96mm Thickness

Illustrative cross-section reference - not to scale.

No. Functional layer Typical material Role in print performance
1 Printing surface Ruby-red EPDM-based rubber Receives and transfers the ink film; provides the primary chemical and surface-contact interface.
2 Top reinforcement High-strength fabric / bonding ply Supports surface uniformity and helps distribute load into the compressible structure.
3 Compressible layer Controlled cellular elastomer Compresses under nip load, cushions localized pressure peaks and recovers after impression.
4 Carcass and base Reinforced fabric plies Provides tensile strength, low elongation and stable mounting on the blanket cylinder.

How the structure works in the printing nip

  1. Contact. The surface accepts the inked image and contacts the substrate in the nip.
  2. Compression. The cellular layer deflects under load and accommodates small variations.
  3. Recovery. The resilient stack returns toward its original gauge for the next impression.
